Bill Opal is a founding partner at Opal O’Brien where he dedicates his practice to litigation surrounding family and criminal law. Bill has extensive courtroom experience having tried over 200 bench trials and 30 jury trials.
Bill specializes in representing small business owners and their spouses in divorce litigation. Bill has also successfully represented doctors, attorneys, financial advisors, accountants, engineers, teachers, pilots, government employees and homemakers, to name a few.
Bill is also a strong advocate of parents entangled in contested custody litigation. His counsel has given his clients a decided advantage in navigating the guardian ad litem and custody evaluation processes.
Bill concentrates his practice in every county in the Chicagoland area. He typically has cases pending simultaneously in the counties of DuPage, Cook, Will, Kane, and Kendall. In addition to his Illinois practice, Bill is also an admitted and active member of the Florida Bar.
Prior to the formation of Opal O’Brien, Bill was an associate at Roberts PC and an Assistant State’s Attorney in DuPage County, where he was named Misdemeanor Prosecutor of the Year in 2011. While in law school, Bill clerked for Justice Kapala, an Appellate Court Justice in the 2nd District of Illinois, and at the insurance defense firm of Norton Mancini.
Bill graduated from the University of Miami School of Law, where he was a member of the Business Law Review. Bill received his undergraduate degree in English from the University of Notre Dame, where he graduated magna cum laude.
